Why Volunteer for BSidesVI?

BSides Vancouver Island is an Information Security Conference. We’re a volunteer-organized event, put on by and for the community, and we truly strive to keep information free. One thing that makes us different from a lot of events like ours is that the cost is minimal and for some free to attend. Our costs are covered by our VIP attendee's, generous donors, and sponsors, who share our vision of free dissemination of information and rely on Volunteers to help make the conference a success.

We need good, reliable folks, we have Volunteer opportunities on for load-in/set-up all the way through load-out/tear-down, Monday to Thursday the week of the conference. We have two main teams of Volunteers, General Volunteers, and Safety & Security Operations.

General Volunteers opportunities range from AV Assistant, Registration, Room Hosts, Runners & Floaters, and Speaker assistance as well as others positions.

Safety & Security Operations is the team that help us enforce fire codes, direct participants to the room they’re looking for, help keep the flow of foot traffic going, ensure folks aren’t in off-limits areas, keep a watchful eye on our assets, and more, all with a smile and a helping attitude.

In order to be a Volunteer for either team, we require a commitment to work a minimum of 2 hours for General Volunteers and Safety & Security. All General Volunteers must be at least 16 with a parent on site and permission given. Exceptions will be made for younger children working with their parents (kids-in-tow). Safety & Security Volunteers must be 18. If you have questions before signing up please feel free to send an email to info@bsidesvi.com

All volunteers will receive a special volunteer t-shirt to be worn during your shifts, a volunteer badge, and entrance to the event for free

Come share your community spirit with the community. it’s a great way to meet new folks, make new friends and learn new skills! In addition to our staff, we need about 20 volunteers to make this wonderful event for over 250 participants happen. Be one of the few, the proud, the BSidesVI Volunteer!
